What We Believe
Our commitment to soul liberty means that each individual is responsible for his or her own faith, so we do not have creeds which prescribe what a person is supposed to believe. Instead, in our tradition, we have confessions that are consensus documents expressing what a given community affirms at a certain time.
The following statements represent the core of our consensus at Cambridge Drive Church and the foundations upon which we
practice our faith together
-
We believe that in Jesus we see and experience the fullness of God.
-
We believe that God's defining characteristic is love.
-
We believe that God's welcome extends to everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other walls we can build.
-
We take the Bible very seriously, but because we take the Bible seriously, we cannot settle for simplistic literal interpretations.
-
We believe that faith must express itself in outward action and make a difference in the world or it is not real faith.
-
We believe God appreciates beauty and creativity and so do we.
-
In our Baptist tradition, we believe in soul freedom, autonomy of the church, separation of church and state, and freedom of the Bible to speak for itself.
