Who We Are
Everyone, and we mean everyone, is welcome
at Cambridge Drive Community Church.
Who We Are
First and foremost, we're a group of laid back, loving, and affirming Christians. We aren't perfect, but we're doing our best to live out the commands of Jesus and treat others with dignity and respect. We encourage you to come as you are, and we actually mean it. No one is going to try to change you here, as you are worthy of being loved just as you are. We are a safe place for people from all walks of life and of all abilities.
As American Baptists, we're theologically and even politically diverse. Our worship services integrate the traditional and contemporary, which includes music. We're just as ready to engage in some holy laughter as we are to do some serious, contemplative soul-searching. We like to be challenged and lift one another up. We genuinely like spending time together (and eating at a good old Baptist potluck!) and doing outreach work within the community. Check out our Church Calendar to learn more about up coming gatherings and outreach opportunities.
Does our church sound like a place you want to be? You are welcome to worship with us! Bring a friend if you'd like!
We have fun activities and instruction in the Red House for children halfway through service. The first Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday. We practice an open Communion table, which means ALL are welcome to Christ's table - you don't have to be a member of our church. If you feel led to the Lord's supper, come and eat.
After worship, a group called the "Lunch Bunch" goes out to eat and fellowship at a local restaurant. New folks are always encouraged to attend so we can get to know you. Please speak to Pastor Nicole if you would like to join. Can't go because you'd have trouble paying? Let her know. We'll make sure you're covered!
What We Believe
Our commitment to soul liberty means that each individual is responsible for their own faith, so we do not have creeds which prescribe what a person is supposed to believe. Instead, in our tradition, we have confessions that are consensus documents expressing what a given community affirms at a certain time.
The following statements represent the core of our consensus at Cambridge Drive Church and the foundations upon which we practice our faith together:
-
We believe that in Jesus we see and experience the fullness of God.
-
We believe that God's defining characteristic is love.
-
We believe that God's welcome extends to everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other walls we can build.
-
We take the Bible very seriously, but because we take the Bible seriously, we cannot settle for simplistic literal interpretations.
-
We believe that faith must express itself in outward action and make a difference in the world or it is not real faith.
-
We believe God appreciates beauty and creativity and so do we.
-
In our Baptist tradition, we believe in soul freedom, autonomy of the church, separation of church and state, and freedom of the Bible to speak for itself.
-
We are affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA and the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches.
