CAMBRIDGE DRIVE CONCERTSFriday June 7, 7:30Buddy Mondlock with special guest Kate BennettThe Cambridge Drive Concert Series is excited to present songwriter extraordinaire Buddy Mondlock with special guest Kate Bennett for our final concert of the season. The concert will be held on Friday June 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Drive Community Church, 550 Cambridge Drive, Goleta, CA 93117. Tickets are $10 donation with advance reservation and $12 at the door. Call 805 964-0436 for reservations. Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, Garth Brooks, Art Garfunkel, and Janis Ian, to name just a few. But there’s nothing like hearing the guy who wrote ‘em sing ‘em. He’s not going to pin your ears back with those songs. He’s going to draw you into his world. Where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get your pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if you’re not careful and where dreams that don’t come true still count. And it can all be happening in a little folk club or on a stage by a grassy hill or in someone’s living room or in the Royal Albert Hall. His new album, “The Edge of the World,” is his most personal recording to date. The song cycle is an introspective journey from childhood through to the recent breakup of a marriage and beyond. And while always a wry observer of the social interactions of human beings, the song “Big Fish, Shallow Water” takes on a political edge as well. Buddy did most of the playing and singing himself, with a little help from longtime friend, bassist Mike Lindauer. Then coproducer Jim Tullio added just the right sonic touches of percussion and atmospheric guitar to glue it all together. Now Buddy’s back, hitting the road performing and leading songwriting workshops, and of course, writing songs. Cause that’s what he does and that’s who he is. Lean in and listen, you won’t be sorry. You can learn more about Buddy at http://www.buddymondlock.com/ Opening for Buddy will be Kate Bennett. If the old adage that you can judge a person by the company they keep applies to music, Kate Bennett is in fine shape. The Santa Barbara singer-songwriter’s self-produced debut CD, Over the Moon, includes Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina, and acclaimed guitarist Jeff Pevar. Although she was born in New Jersey, Kate is all California girl now. Soon after arriving in Santa Barbara she began performing locally. Her first public appearance was a concert at the historical Lobero Theatre, where she shared the stage with other local songwriters. Some of Kate’s performing credits include performing as member of Jim Messina’s regular "Songwriters in the Round" concerts where she played alongside 60's hit maker Jeff Barry, Poco's Paul Cotton, Toto's David Paich as well as Messina's former partner Kenny Loggins. She has opened for other nationally known artists such as Caroline Aiken and Michael Smith. Kate's website is http://www.katebennett.com/ You can always find us on our Facebook page .
